Ron English Cathy Cowgirl Project

Obviously I am still adding content to my new site, because this is a project I did a few years ago. However I just came across the images again today. Super fun project recreating pop icon artist Ron English Cathy Cowgirl painting/ Sculpture into real life.

This was for the grand opening of Corey Helford Gallery’s glorious location DTLA.  My process for this included making a sculpture of horns based on original painting then making a silicone mold, casing each piece in a two-part foam material, hand painting horns, then coating horns with resin. I made a pattern for the ears then created each head-piece. I chose two-part foam for this casting because its such a light weight but strong material .

For the tops I had two options,  doing a prosthetic cow utter attached directly to the skin or create bra tops adding prosthetic elements, which is what I ended up doing. I contacted my super talented and amazing friend Brooke Barker who is an FX goddess to create utter and hired her to do body painting on girls.

The shorts I made cute cuffed denim with pink bandana lined pockets and vintage resin with crystal matching pink buttons.

Guns and holsters I found parts DTLA and ordered online then modified in my studio to match color way of costumes.

The boots are all vintage cowboy boots I rented those from Western Costume .

I know it  looks like a pretty simple project, the planning and execution actually did take a lot of time, thought and running around . I live for planning whole projects though. I also did the model casting  and worked show both nights dressing and directing girls.

I want to thank Ron English & Corey Helford Gallery for hiring me to do this fun project.
